Cold Emergency Deactivated March 1, 2014

Saturday, March 1, 2014

On Saturday, March 1, 2014, the Cold Emergency Alert will NOT be activated. Standard Hypothermia Alert actions will be in effect to help residents who are homeless.

When the actual or forecasted temperature or wind chill is 32 degrees F or below, the District issues a Hypothermia Alert. If the actual or forecasted temperature or wind chill is 15 degrees or below, or 20 degrees with precipitation or other cold indicators, a Cold Emergency Alert will be activated. This means that additional services and supports are available to help homeless residents. To request support for persons in DC who are homeless and on the street now, contact the Shelter Hotline at 1-800-535-7252 or 311 or email [email protected]. Visit www.dmhhs.dc.gov for updates. To receive alerts, register with Alert DC online at https://textalert.ema.dc.gov/register.php or by texting "DC" to 411911.
