(Washington, DC) – Mayor Vincent C. Gray and Deputy Mayor for Health and Human Services BB Otero today announced the planned opening in January 2015 of a fully renovated drop-in day center for persons who are homeless that will provide food, showers and case management services on site. The facility will offer a supportive environment for residents to participate in job-readiness activities and advance their plans to achieve economic self-sufficiency. 

The programming to be offered will be guided by the recommendations of a working group from the Interagency Council on Homelessness. The facility will be able to accommodate more than 100 individuals per day.

“I want to thank the Department of Human Services and our community partners for working to develop a daytime center that will provide critical support in the lives of homeless residents,” Mayor Gray said.

“This center will provide an additional resource for residents to receive case management and employment-readiness training during the daytime until they are able to move into permanent housing,” Deputy Mayor Otero said.
