Mayor Bowser to Host Annual Senior Holiday Celebration

Tuesday, December 12, 2017

(Washington, DC) – On Wednesday, December 13, at 10 am, Mayor Bowser will host the Annual Senior Holiday Celebration and discuss her Administration’s efforts to improve the lives of seniors in Washington, DC. This event is expected to draw more than 3,500 attendees, ages 60 and up, and will feature health and wellness demonstrations, informational exhibits, and live entertainment. In addition, approximately 150 members of the Mayor’s administration as well as community volunteers will help serve lunch to guests. The theme this year, “Together We Thrive,” celebrates the strides made by the District towards becoming an age-friendly, livable city for all.

Through investments in housing, employment opportunities, public safety, transportation, and wellness programs, the Bowser Administration is ensuring more DC seniors are able to age in place and live purposeful lives. Through Age-Friendly DC, a citywide initiative guided by the World Health Organization (WHO), the Administration has worked to transform Washington, DC into an easier place to grow older. As a result, the District has now been recognized as one of a handful of cities worldwide to be designated by the WHO as an Age-Friendly City.
